| This Carnegie funded building was designed by J. R. Rhind and opened in 1902. Rhind designed this library to be a landmark which stood out from the dreariness of the surrounding housing. It still achieves this. The nearby high-rise ugliness has been transformed into mysterious mountains and terraces. There are woods on each side of the ornate architecture and a sphynx stands in a attendance at the entrance. St George has not killed the dragon yet. Libraries can take you to another better place. | ||||
