| In
the spring of 2008 the McCartney family of East Mains, East
Kilbride commissioned me to paint a series of pictures on some
interior shutters in their home, which was undergoing extensive
renovations and redecoration. The refurbishment was being
conducted by Fran and Colin in a manner sensitive to the traditional
aspects of the 1886 fine stone-built house and they
extended
this sensitivity by allowing me freedom in the subject matter of
the painted panels. I believe that all art is about our individual view in one way or another. It interested me to investigate my view of another's so that I could produce a work which you could look at. I chose Scottish Literature from the past few hundred years - a mere four or five generations. It would not be illustration of the stories, I explained to a patient Fran and Colin, but rather a personal reaction to them. |
